Murphy – The Bulldogs’ boys track and field team captured another team victory at their home meet on April 3.
The team scores ended at Murphy with 95 points, Hayesville at 91, Swain County at 40 and Hiwassee Dam at 18.
Murphy’s Cale Harger placing first in the long jump. Camden Breazeale placed first in the 110-meter hurdles and Will Shore took third and Jerry Bui took fourth. Breazeale also finished first in the 300m hurdles, and Will Shore finished second in the event for the Dogs.
Murphy took the top four spots in the 100m dash. Chandler Nunes took first followed by Ryan Payne, Mason Ray and Trenton Russell. Brady Grant took sixth place as well. The 4x200m meter relay event was taken by the Dogs, as the team of Brady Grant, Cameron Clem, Ryan Payne and Trenton Russell brought a first-place finish for the Dogs. The Dogs also took first place in the 4x100m relay. Ryan Payne captured the 400m dash prize and Kamdyn Koop finished fourth in that event. Cale Harger finished first in the 200m dash.
The Dogs took second in several events. Breazeale took second in the high jump. The 4x800m and the 4x100m relay teams finished second. Out of the 17 events that were scored, the Murphy boys track team took home the victory.
The Lady Bulldogs’ track team finished second in the event, as Hayesville had 114 points, Murphy had 94 and Swain had 33.
Murphy took the top three spots in the 100m dash, as Kayla Greer took first, and Patience Garrett and Rylee tabor took second and third, respectively. Murphy also took first in the 4x200m relay event with the team of Alyssa Trantham, Corinne Cotton, Wyndsor Caldwell and Cayla Greer.
Murphy took first in the 4x100m relay with Trantham, Greer, Tabor and Garrett. Corinne Cotton took first in the 400m dash, finishing one second ahead of her nearest competitor, with a time of 1:02.69. Jordan Oliver had first-place finishes in the wheelchair discus, wheelchair shot put and the wheelchair 100m dash.
The Lady Dogs finished second in several events. Patience Garrett took second in the long jump. Aiden Smith finished second in the discus throw, followed by teammate Saige Kent in third. Ivy Werner finished second in the 100m hurdles. Rylee Tabor had a second finish in the 200m dash, followed by teammate Corinne Cotton in third.
After spring break, they will return to action as they will have a meet in Hayesville on April 17.
