Murphy – The Lady Bulldogs’ soccer team suffered their third straight loss to Franklin on April 4. In their 3-0 loss, Murphy lacked possession of the ball and scoring chances.
Six minutes into the match, Franklin scored their first goal on a cross into the middle. Franklin moved the ball well on the outside wings and attempted to score by sending the ball into the middle on multiple occasions. 11 minutes later, Franklin scored again after a shot went over the keeper and into the goal. Franklin took a 2-0 lead to halftime after they possessed the ball for the majority of the first half. Murphy had some scoring chances late in the half, but did not convert.
A little over halfway into the second half, Franklin found the back of the net after the ball went into the corner of the net grazing the gloves of the Murphy goalkeeper. There was more back and forth play in the midfield in the second half. Murphy had more control of the ball and had a few scoring chances late, but were unable to notch a goal.
Lady Bulldogs head coach Kim Brownlee said the team didn’t play well in their match against Franklin.
“They didn’t communicate well, they didn’t keep possession whatsoever and their passing just needs work,” Brownlee said.
Brownlee said that there isn’t much she can do with the team over spring break, but that they need the rest.
“Everybody’s traveling, so there’s not a lot I can do with them during the break. All I can do is hope they stay safe, they have a good break and they stay conditioning because we have a tough opener when we get back,” Brownlee said.
In their last three games, Murphy has only scored one goal. This was also their first non-conference loss. Heading into spring break, they have an overall record of 7-3, with a Smoky Mountain Conference record of 4-2. After spring break, they will head to Cherokee on Monday, April 15 to take on the Lady Braves.
