Lady Wildcats lose 2 to Knights in softball

Andrews – The Lady Wildcats softball team lost both of their matchups against Robbinsville last week.

In their first game of the week against Robbinsville on April 2, they lost 15-0. In a game that only lasted three innings, the Lady Black Knights got the scoring early and put the game away quickly. Robbinsville jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, then the added on 10 more runs in the second. Andrews were unable to rally in the top of the third and the game ended.

The Lady Wildcats only had three hits. The first came from Carley Clark that came in the top of the second inning. Demi Davis also had a hit and reached first on a fielders choice. In the top of the third inning, Hannah Talkington got on base after being hit by a pitch. In the next at bat, Kaiya Ellis reached first base on a fielders choice.

Kinleigh Queen was on the mound for the Lady Wildcats and threw a 75-pitch complete game. Andrews had three hits and two errors in their loss on Tuesday. Robbinsville had 15 runs on 10 hits.

In the final game before spring break, the Lady Wildcats hosted Robbinsville on April 5 and lost 17-0 in three innings. This was their third straight three-inning game.

Robbinsville got the scoring going early and didn’t let up. They scored four runs in the first inning, nine in the second inning and then four more in the third inning. Andrews was unable to close the gap to extend the game, so it was a mercy rule loss for the Lady Wildcats.

Alexis Beasley got on base in the first inning after a hit and fielders choice, then she stole second on a wild pitch during the next at bat. In the second, Katie Moses singled on a hit to center field. She then got out after being picked off at first base. Carley Clark singled on a hit to center field, but was left on base.

Kinleigh Queen pitched her second complete game of the week against Robbinsville. In Friday’s game, she threw 105 pitches.

Andrews had two hits and seven errors. The Lady Black Knights had 17 runs on 13 hits.

After they return from spring break, they will play a two-game series against Smoky Mountain Conference opponent Swain County.

On Tuesday, April 16 they will head to Swain, and on Friday, April 19, they will host. First pitch is at 4:30 p.m. for both games.
