Eagles’ baseball comes ends against Crusaders

Huntersville – The Hiwassee Dam baseball team’s season came to a close May 8 when the Eagles lost 10-0 to Christ the King.

The Crusaders took an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first. They added one run in both the second and third innings to lead 4-0 through three.

After a scoreless fourth inning from both teams, the Crusaders added one run in the fifth. In the sixth, Christ the King capped off their win with five runs to lead 10-0 and end the game.

Hiwassee Dam scored no runs on five hits and also had five errors. The Crusaders scored 10 runs on 10 hits. The Eagles’ five hits came from Kyle Taylor, who had two, Abel Penland, Clay Davis and Trenten Beavers.

Dawson Headley and Davis split pitching duties. Davis pitched the first 5.1 innings and allowed 10 runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out five. Headley closed the game and allowed one hit.

The Eagles finished the season with a 5-12 overall record, 5-7 in the Smoky Mountain Conference.
