Andrews, TCEC track speeds into spring break after conference meet

Robbinsville – The Andrews and Tri-County track teams headed north to Robbinsville High School to compete in their third Smoky Mountain Conference track and field meet of the season on April 3.

Andrews’ Kaiya Ellis got first in the 100-meter hurdles. The girls 4x100m (Ellis, Allie Gibson, Kylie Donaldson and Alexis Beasley) and 4x400m (Beasley, Trinity Taylor, Sharon Um and Hannah Talkington) relay teams earned first-place finishes. Kylie Donaldson also got first place in the triple jump.

On the boys side, Logan Shuler continued his success in the high jump, earning first place. Samuel Preston also won first place in the 100m dash and triple jump.

Adding onto the first-place finishes, the Wildcats track and field team earned many top-five finishes. On the girls side, Kylie Donaldson got second place in the 100m dash and second place in the long jump. Allie Gibson got second in the 200m dash and Trinity Taylor earning fourth place.

In the 400m dash, Anahi Aguilar got second and Ashley Galindo got fifth place. Just behind Ellis in the 100m hurdles, Hannah Talkington finished in second place. Talkington also got fifth place in the high jump. In the 300m hurdles, Riley Thompson got fifth place.

The Andrews girls relay teams also saw success. Along with the two first-place finishes, the girls 4x200m relay team (Talkington, Gibson, Beasley and Beth Shook) earned a second-place finish.

In field events, Demi Davis got third in shot put and fourth in discus. Ellis finished second in the triple jump, while Beth Shook finished in third in the long jump. Alexis Beasley finished in second place in the shot put.

On the boys side for Andrews, Isaac Patrick finished in fourth place in the 100m dash, Phisher Baxter finished second in the 200m dash and Brady Mclelland finished in fifth in the 400m dash. Jesus Jimenez finished in second in the 300m hurdles and fourth in the 110m hurdles. Chase Beasley finished in fifth in the 110m hurdles.

For the boys relay teams, they finished in third place for the 4x100m (Caleb Helton, Isaac Patrick, Phisher Baxter and Josh Hernandez), 4x200m (Hernandez, Helton, Brady Mclelland and Myca Mustin) and 4x400m (Mustin, Hernandez, Josiah Roehm and Ethan Barton) relays.

In the field events, they also had success. Caleb Helton finished in second place in the high jump, Isaac Patrick got third in the long jump, Myca Mustin got third in the triple jump and Brady Mclelland got fifth in the shot put to round out Andrews’ success at the Robbinsville meet on April 3.

Tri-County did not have any first-place finishes at the Robbinsville meet, but they still had success.

On the girls side for Tri-County, Marah Jones got third in the 400m dash with Jaden Crocker right behind in fourth place. In the 800m run, Kadeesha Sudderth finished in second, with Bryanna Jaime in third and Ernestrina Trigueros in fourth. Crocker also got fifth place in the discus. The girls relay teams got second place in the 4x400m relay and fourth in the 4x200m.

On the boys side, Joshua Bickham finished in third in the 200m dash with Landon McCoy finishing in fifth. In the 400m dash, Nathan Downs finished in third. In the long jump, Logan DiCicco finished in fourth and William Boyd finished in fifth. The boys relay teams got second in the 4x400m and fourth in the 4x200m relay.

After spring break, Andrews will head to Swain County for their next meet Wednesday, April 17.

Tri-County will head to Hayesville on the same day for their next week. At both meets, the events will begin at 3 p.m.
