Andrews – All the Smoky Mountain Conference track and field teams were in action on April 24 in their last meet of the regular season. Andrews hosted Hiwassee Dam, Tri-County Early College and Nantahala, while Murphy traveled to Cherokee.
In Andrews, the Wildcats’ boys team picked up first place in total points with 113, while the girls team secured second with 97. En route to their first-place points finish, they had multiple first-place finishes.
Samuel Preston was first in the 100-meter dash, long jump and triple jump. Jesus Jimenez was first in the 110m hurdles, while Logan Shuler got first in high jump. Shuler won the high jump by more than a foot.
On the girls side, Kylie Donaldson continued her dominance in the 100m dash with a first-place finish. She also got first in the triple jump. Kaiya Ellis got first in the 100m hurdles and high jump. Beth Shook got first in the high jump. Both of the girls’ relay teams, the 4x100m and 4x200m, took first.
To go with their first-place finishes, they had numerous top-three finishes. In the 200m dash, Isaac Patrick got second place. In the 400m dash, Myca Mustin got second place. In the 110m and 300m hurdles, Chase Beasley got third in both. After Jimenez won the 110m hurdles, he got second in the 300m hurdles.
In the field events, Caleb Helton got third in the high jump. In long jump, Patrick got second. In triple jump, Mustin got third. In shot put, Baxter got second.
On the girls’ side, there were also multiple top threes in both track and field events. Alexis Beasley got second in shot put and third in the 100m dash, while Trinity Taylor was second in the 200m dash. Hannah Talkington got second in both the 100m hurdles and high jump, while Donaldson was second in the long jump.
Tri-County got third place in points on the boys and girls side with 74 and 39, respectively. On the boys side, Sebastian Clevez got first in the 200m dash, and William Boyd was first in the 400m dash. On the girls side, Fern Crayton got first in the 800m, 1,600m and 3,200m runs. Their girls 4x400 relay team also got first.
Along with first-place finishes, Tri-County also had multiple top fives. In the 200m dash, Joshua Bickham got third and Logan DiCicco was fifth. DiCicco also got third in the 400m dash, and Landon McCoy was fourth. McCoy also was fifth in the 100m dash.
In the 800m dash, Nathan Downs got second, Conner Arrowood was third and Mason Smith finished fourth. Landon Spies got second in the 1,600m run. In the field events, Boyd got third in the long jump, while Andrew White was third in discus.
In the 400m dash, Bryanna Jamie got fourth and Jaden Crocker was fifth. Marah Jones got fifth in the 200m dash, while Jones also got fourth in the long jump. In discus, Crocker was fifth.
Hiwassee Dam and Nantahala sent a handful of athletes to the meet at Andrews. Hiwassee Dam boys placed fourth in points with two, while Nantahala girls placed fourth with three points.
For the Eagles, Aiden Weaver placed fifth in discus and shot put, while Miranda Landon placed 10th in shot put and 16th in discus. For Nantahala, Zoey Passmore was fourth in the 100m hurdles and fifth in the 100m dash. She was the highest-placing girl on the team.
Hunter Bryant and Jaden Carver placed highest for the boys. Bryant got sixth in the 100m dash, while Carver was sixth in discus.
In Cherokee, Murphy was competing also in their last meet before today’s Smoky Mountain Conference championship. The girls team paced third with 98 points and fourth with 92 points.
On the boys side, Cameron Clem got first in the 100m dash, while Camden Breazeale was first in the 300m hurdles and Cale Harger first in the long jump. The boys 4x200m relay team won first.
On the girls side, Corinne Cotton got first in the 400m dash. Ivy Werner got first in the 100m hurdles.
The Bulldogs also had multiple top-three finishes. Harger got third in the 200m dash, Trenton Russell was third in the 400m dash and Aaron Harger got third in discus. The boys 4x800 relay team got third.
On the girls side, Cayla Greer got second in the 100m dash, Cotton was third in the 200m dash and Breeze Hinton took third in the 300m hurdles. Gabby Lloyd got third in shot put. The girls relay teams got second in both the 4x100m and 4x200m runs.
Today, Smoky Mountain teams will head to Cherokee for the conference championship at 3:30 p.m.
