Murphy – The Andrews High School boys track and field team placed first out of five team’s at the April 5 Bulldog Invitational at Murphy High School.

Competing against Cherokee, Hiwassee Dam, Murphy and Rosman, the Wildcats’ 112 points topped the Braves by seven points for first place.

The Andrews boys won five events, with Kegan Ellis winning the long jump (19 feet, 4 inches) and triple jump (38’6), Logan Shuler winning the high jump (6’0), Isaac Weaver winning the shot put (43’7) and O’Malley Salinas winning the 3,200-meter run (10 minutes, 57.52 seconds). For the Lady Wildcats, Alexis Beasley won the shot put (30’1) and Kylie Donaldson won the triple jump (32’4).

The Murphy boys won two individual events along with three relays. Ryan Payne won the 100-meter dash (12.00), Cameron Grooms won the 200-meter dash (23.67) and the Bulldogs won the 4x100-meter (46.29), 4x200-meter (1:36.84) and 4x400-meter relay (3:47.88).

The Lady Bulldogs won six events. Jordan Oliver won the wheelchair shot put (7’8), discus (16’7) and 100-meter wheelchair dash (46.70); Breeze Hinton won the high jump (4’8) and Corinne Cotton won and qualified for regionals in the 400-meter dash (1:03.78). The Lady Bulldogs also took first in the 4x200-meter relay (1:57.25). Hiwassee Dam’s Ethan Russell won the boys 1,600-meter run (4:51.37).

Tri-County Early College competed at Hayesville along with the Yellow Jackets, Pisgah, Robbinsville, Swain County and Tuscola. Junior Sebastian Clevez broke his own school record in the boys 200-meter dash (24.74) while freshman Fern Crayton qualified for regionals in the girls 3,200-meter run (13:13.67).
