Asheville – The TCR Invitational on Saturday provided stiff competition for Murphy and Tri-County Early College – as well as TC Roberson, Franklin, Mountain Heritage, NCSSM Dragons, West Henderson and Smoky Mountain – at the Buncombe County Aquatic Center.
Tri-County finished fifth overall, while Murphy was eighth.
Kirra Talent scored points for Murphy with a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke and 10th in the 50 freestyle.
Scoring for the Tri-County girls were:
- Fern Crayton, fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.
- Ariana Rivas, second in the 100 free.
- Mary Lynn Hulsey, Jaden Crocker, Rivas and Crayton, fifth in the 200-yard medley relay
- Crayton, Hulsey, Tori Jimenez and Rivas, third in the 200 free relay.
- Trigueros, Crayton, Hulsey and Rivas, fourth in the 400 free, as the team made an automatic regional cut.
Scoring for the Tri-County boys were:
- William Boyd, ninth in the 200 free, and 10th in the 100 free.
- Nathan Abejam, ninth place in the 200 individual medley.
- Griffin Croteau-Schreiner, seventh in the 100 butterfly.
- Logan DiCcio, Landen Spies, Abejam and Boyd, ninth in 200 medley, setting a new school record by 9 seconds vs. the 2019 time.
- Croteau-Schreiner, Elias Diaz, Nathan Downs and Spies, ninth in 200 free relay.
With one remaining meet scheduled, Rivas (100 free) and Crayton (500 free) have the only two individual automatic times; each has multiple consideration times to complete their regional qualifying. Other girls with consideration times include Crocker (1), Hulsey (2), Jimenez (2), Talent (2), Ansley Roper (3) and Delilah Naylor (2).
Boys with consideration times are Abejam (5), Boyd (2), Spies, Croteau-Schreiner and DiCcio, each with 1.
