Andrews – Andrews freshman Logan Shuler leaped into Andrews High School’s record books during the March 29 home meet.
Shuler’s high jump mark of 6 feet, 1 inch broke the Wildcats’ school record in just his fourth meet at the varsity level. Shuler took first in the third meet, his third time winning the high jump this spring.
Hayesville, Swain County and Tri-County Early College also competed in the meet. Besides Shuler, Andrews had Kegan Ellis take first in the boys long jump (19’11) and triple jump (38’6), O’Malley Salinas take first in the 1,600-meter (4 minutes, 50.24 seconds) and 3,200-meter runs (10:46.33), and Kylie Donaldson take first in the girls long jump (15’0) and 100-meter dash (13.40).
Andrews also took first in the boys 4x800-meter relay (9:20), and the girls 4x100-meter (56.80) and 4x200-meter relays (2:02.84).
Wildcats throwers Demi Davis (31’0) and Alexis Beasley (30’1) qualified for regionals in the girls shot put, while Isaac Weaver (45’4.5) did the same in the boys shot put. Also taking first at the meet was Tri-County’s Fern Crayton in the girls 800-meter (2:46.92) and 1,600-meter runs (5:53.00)
Murphy headed to Cherokee to compete against the Braves, Nantahala and Robbinsville. Four Bulldogs picked up wins led by Jordan Oliver in the wheelchair shot put (7’7), wheelchair discus (13’7) and 100-meter wheelchair dash (38.91).
Ryan Payne took first in the boys 100-meter dash (11.59), Cameron Grooms led the pack in the boys 200-meter dash (23.58), while Calista Rumfelt had the top mark in the girls high jump (4’10) and qualified for regionals in the process.
Murphy also took first in the boys 4x100-meter (47.24) and boys 4x200-meter relay (1:36.05).
