Everything came up roses for the Murphy boys basketball team at home Dec. 1 against Polk County as the squad secured a 81-46 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Murphy.
Among those leading the charge was Dominick Rummler, who scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds. Cale Harger was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 6 rebounds.
Murphy’s victory bumped their record up to 2-0, while Polk County dropped to 3-1.
On the girls side, Murphy lost to Union County 65-35 on Dec. 5.
Andrews and HD
The Wildcats boys basketball team had already won two in a row – a stretch where they outscored opponents by an average of 15.5 points – and they went ahead and made it three Friday, defeating Hiwassee Dam with a sharp
63-37 victory. That’s another feather in the cap for Andrews, who also won these teams’ last head-to-head.
Cameron Rattler was on fire, dropping a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Rattler is dominating the rebound category: he’s posted at least eight every time he’s taken the court this season. Landon Greene was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 9 rebounds.
Andrews’ victory was their
third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Hiwassee Dam, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.
On the girls side, Andrews beat Tuscola 54-47 on Dec. 7 after taking down Highlands 43-26 on Nov. 28. Hiwassee Dam also was a winner, defeating Polk County 42-34 on Dec. 1.
Nantahala
On Dec 5, the Nantahala girls basketball team lost to Robbinsville 80-11. That came after the Lady Hawks fell to Hayesville 75-19 on Dec. 1.
