Hiwassee Dam – Olivia McNabb of the Lady Eagles scored her 1,000th point as a high school basketball player on Jan. 23.
Several high school players accomplish this during their senior years, but McNabb is a little impatient. She decided to reach this milestone in her junior year.
In addition to being a great basketball player, she is also outstanding in softball. McNabb has already got some offers to play softball at the nest level, but she is not focused on that. She wants to enjoy the rest of this year and her senior year first.
When asked if she realized that she was shooting for her 1,000th point, McNabb said she didn’t realize it until coach David Payne told her she need four more points to reach the milestone with about a minute to go in the game. She simply went out and sank two field goals to get the points.
McNabb said she felt no pressure, so maybe she has ice water in her veins.
She is the daughter of April Roberts McNabb and Chad McNabb, both who were pretty good athletes back in their day. When asked which side of the family Olivia’s talent comes from, being smart folks they answered that she gets her height from her dad and scrappiness from her mom.
