    Wendall Bateman, 77, of Topton, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2022.
    Wendall was born Jan. 4, 1944, in Nantahala to the late Claude and Elda Neal Bateman.
    He was a farmer.
    Wendall loved working, trout fishing and beekeeping. He also loved spending time with his family, and loved his grandkids and great-grandkids.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Bateman; his brothers, T.A., Johnny, Charles, Todd, Morris, Jerry and James Bateman; and his sisters, Geneva Mosteller and Mary Williamson.
    Wendall is survived by his sons, Brian Bateman and wife Kim, and Sheldon Bateman and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Corey Bateman, Jaide Bateman, Caitlyn Bateman and Lucas Bateman; and great-grandchildren, Cashdon Bateman, Kaisley Bateman, Addison Bateman and Isaiah Bateman.
    A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at Aquone Baptist in the Nantahala community. The Revs. S.J. Waters, Doyce Waters and Dean Bateman officiated. Music was conducted by Elisha Bateman and Andrew Greene. Burial was in Aquone Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Bryant, Buddy Packham, Ronnie Bateman, Kenneth Passmore, Kevin Freeman and Adam Wishon. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Bryant, Joe Rowland and Junior Solesbee.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, March 24, prior to the service.
