    Velma Phillips, 92, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at her residence.
    She was born in Haywood County. Velma lived most of her life in Cherokee County.
    She was the daughter of the late Clearcy Brown and stepfather William Brown.
    Velma was a member of Little Glade Baptist Church.
     In addition, to her mother and stepfather, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Phillips, and  sisters, Carolyn Sue Clark, Sadie McGaha and Corrine Mahaffey.
    Surviving are her sons, Troy Phillips and wife Cathy and Kenny Phillips and wife Freda; sister, Charlotte “Cricket” Carwile; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Hoyt Brown officiated. Burial was in Old Martins Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dustin Clonts, Johnathan Hunter, Everett Cook, Melvin Beaver, Danny Truett and Floyd Hughes.
    The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
