    Tony Jay Wood, 72, of Hiawassee, Ga., went to be with his Lord Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020, at his home.
    He was a native of Towns County, Ga., where he lived most of his life. He was the son of the late Faine and Stella Wood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Nolan Wood, and mother-in-law, Virginia Dockery.
    Tony is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandy Dockery Wood; two daughters, Ginia Wood and Kristy Kell and husband Cody; three grandchildren, Conner Jay Kell, Cooper Kell and Karalyn Kell; brothers, Rondal Wood and wife Pat, and Jim Wood; sisters, Glady Kelley and husband Tom; Pat Chastain and husband Steve, and Shirley Youngblood and husband Ronnie. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Joyce Wood; his father-in-law, Lowen Dockery; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
    Tony was a kind and wonderful person. He was a devoted husband, an adoring father and a doting grandfather. He was loved very much and will be greatly missed.
    He was a Christian and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee.
    Tony served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He received the National Defense Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Stars, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal with Oak Leaves and Air Medal with V for Valor. He also received awards for Expert Marksmanship for M-14, M-16 and M60. He served in the North Carolina National Guard obtaining a military rank of Sergeant E5.
    Family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home in Hiawassee.
    Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee.
    Interment was at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Peachtree.
