Spencer A. Smith, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, from complications due to dementia. He was 82.
He has now reunited with his parents, Bruce and Icie Smith, and his precious daughter, Sarah Smith, at his forever home in heaven.
For us who remain, we will be waiting until we meet again. We will keep your memory alive, keep you close in our hearts, and keep the laughter flowing and the good times going. Then I promise, your loving wife, Reba Smith, who you spent your days making happy, loving and protecting with a love only a few ever experience. From your two sons, Justin Smith (Louise), and Bruce Smith both of Anadarko, Okla., and daughter, Tammy Myers of Clovis, Calif. With much love, your stepsons, Bobby Smith (Ann) of Mills River, and Billy Smith (Debi) of Crown Point, Ind., and stepdaughter, Rose “Hoppi” Jones (Steve) of Blairsville, Ga.; and your many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Spencer graduated from Andrews High and attended college at the University of Florida, with a degree in forestry and business.
He pursued his career in forestry in Arizona and later worked as regional director for BLM (Bureau of Land Management) in Oregon, Washington, California and Arizona.
Spencer was an amazing man with a passion for life and enjoyed it to its fullest. He never encountered a stranger, and anyone fortunate enough to have known him will never forget him. He was strong, intelligent, and more energetic than most men half his age.
Spencer loved helping others. He loved fishing and being outdoors, loved joking around and spending time with his buddies and family. Guns were a hobby of his, purchasing them, trading them, giving them away, just wheeling and dealing guns of any kind.
Everyone knew Spencer by his homemade fudge, it was famous. He gave it to folks all across the United States on his and Reba’s journeys out West.
This was a man that drove a big bright yellow truck with a huge smiley face on the front hood and built his own casket – bright yellow, of course.
He lived his dream; he fulfilled his purpose. Spencer was truly the best of everything and will be missed immensely.
A man like Spencer does not leave your life without leaving a great void. He leaves behind a legacy of stories, some he told, some he lived, all will be repeated over and over as we remember our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
The truth is, he’s not far away – for now he is our angel. We love you and will see you again soon.
Services were held at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home, Anadarko, Okla.
We will grieve and mourn your loss, while never losing sight of joy and love you left with us.
As a tribute to Spencer, I think he would ask that you do something kind for someone. Let’s pass on this humanity.
