    Roger Turner, 65, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at his residence.
    He was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., but had lived in Murphy most of his life.
    Roger had worked as an operator for the N.C. Department of Transportation for 20 years recently retiring in July 2020.
    He was a member of the Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department for 27 years and had served as both captain and board member.
    Roger owned and operated Turner’s Garbage Service for many years.
    He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed dirt track racing and going to the Peachtree Store to spend time with friends.
    He was the son of the late Doris Gaddis Turner and Roger Turner Sr. He was also preceded by a sister, Nancy Roberts.
    Surviving are his wife of nearly 30 years, Dixie West Turner; daughter, Becky Turner of Andrews; son, Troy Turner and wife, Kaitlin of Murphy; sister, Teresa Thomasson and husband Ricky of Murphy; granddaughter, Laurel Ann Turner; nephew, Scott Renfro and wife Kathy; great-niece, Khristin Renfro; and several aunts and uncles of Tennessee.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Jason Killian officiating. Interment was in Peachtree Community Cemetery with the Rev. Chester Jones officiating. Pallbearers were Danny Rich, Doug Sneed, Bobby Barton, David Rivenbark, Jordan Messer and Isaac Boring. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Campbell, Mark Pickens, Jackie Ledford, David Tony, Doug Holloway, Sammy Berrong, Jeff Fowler and members of the Peachtree Volunteer Fire Department. Family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
