    Ravenna Queen Hughes, 85, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, in a Murphy care facility.
    She was born in Swain County, but considered herself a native of Cherokee County.
    Rynn’s greatest love in life was preaching and teaching others the good news of God’s kingdom. She was always caring for others and lived by the Golden Rule.
    She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 65 years. Rynn loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, hiking and enjoying outdoor activities.
    She was the daughter of the late Doc Haines and Lori Lambert Queen and wife of the late Jim Ed Hughes, who died Jan. 29, 1974. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandson, Tripp Halstead; and two sisters, Kathrine Howell and Dorothy Lewis.
    Surviving are three sons, Michael Hughes and wife Lenora of Murphy, Larry Hughes and wife Connie of Jefferson, Ga., and Steve Hughes and wife Karen of Summerville, S.C.; two sisters, Geraldine Lewis of Murphy and Barbara Lewis and husband Paul of Sylva; a brother, D.H. Queen and wife Rita of Waynesville; six grandchildren, Bryan Hughes and wife Loren, Josh Hughes and wife Gracy, Stacy Halstead and husband Bill, Crystal Condon and husband Kevin, Amanda Silver and husband Daniel and Brigitte Gay and husband Georen; and six great-grandchildren, Tori Beth and M.J. Condon, Bodan and Brooke Silver, and Aleah and Jonah Gay.
    Memorial services for Rynn were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Kingdom Hall – Jehovah’s Witnesses in Marble with Leonard West officiating.
    The family received friends from 1-1:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Kingdom Hall – Jehovah’s Witnesses prior to the services.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of arrangements.
