    Patricia Hardin Ackerman, 75, of Andrews, passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021, in a Murphy hospital.
    Born Aug. 29, 1945, in a log cabin on Owl Creek to the late Robert Fulton and Emily Sexton Hass, she was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County.  
    Pat attended White Church Elementary School in Hanging Dog, and was a 1963 graduate of Murphy High School. She was a 1997 graduate of Montreat College, where she received her bachelor’s degree in business administration.
    Pat worked for Cherokee County Department of Social Services for 20 years and later as an accountant for NCDOT, retiring in 2005.
Pat had served as secretary for the Board of Elections, past president of the Democratic Women and past chairman of the Cherokee County Democratic Party. Pat had also served on the Board of Appalachian Angels and volunteered with Guardian Ad Litem for several years.
    She was a devoted member of Valleytown Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served on the finance committee, was instrumental in remodeling the kitchen, and served as chairman of the Valleytown Cemetery Board.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her previous husband, Leon D. Hardin, and two brothers, Charles and Sonny Hass.
    She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Larry Joseph Ackerman of Andrews; one daughter, Sharon Lynn Wieting and husband Cory, of Gulfport Miss.; two sons, Dr. David Ackerman and wife Alison of Elkin, and Andrew Ackerman and wife Susan of Lawrenceville, Ga.; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; a special adopted daughter, Jeannie Buchanan; and special caregivers, Judy Curtis and Jane Carver.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Valleytown Baptist Church, with the Revs. Eric Byrd, Marlon Blaylock and Eddie Hardin officiating. Music was provided by Derrick Palmer, Serenity Allison and Elyssa Byrd Monsrud. Interment was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Ackerman, Christopher Ackerman, Aaron Ackerman, Curtis Hass, Brian Hass and Steven Simmons. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Cherokee County Board of Elections and Valleytown Cemetery Board.
    The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at Valleytown Baptist Church, prior to the service.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Appalachian Angels, 95 Dancing Tree Road, Marble, NC 28905.
