    Mildred Maggie Gibson Gentry, 88, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019, in an Union County, Ga., hospital.
    She was a native of Gum Log, Ga., but lived in Jackson, S.C., before retiring to Murphy with her husband in the mid 1980s.
    Mildred worked as a teacher and taught at several schools in North Georgia, but most of her career took place teaching at Martinez Elementary School in Georgia.
    She was a very active member of Hanging Dog Baptist Church. Mildred enjoyed many things and excelled at cooking, sewing, quilting, gardening and canning.
    She was the daughter of the late Isaac Henry and Pleshia Arilla Chastain Gibson, and wife of the late John Benjamin Gentry, who died July 1, 2015. She was the last of 12 siblings.
    Surviving are a sister-in-law, Gladys O’Dell of Knoxville, Tenn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins, who loved her dearly.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Eddis Dockery officiating. The interment will be in Many Forks Cemetery in Young Harris, Ga. Pallbearers will be Christopher and Paul Richards, Matthew Smith, Marvin, Ronald and Roy Gibson, and Ernest J. Chastain.
    The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the services.
