    Martha Jean Chastain Hatchett – or as most called her, "Nana," 90, of Murphy, was welcomed Home on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022.
    She dedicated her life serving the students of Cherokee County as an elementary school teacher for 30 years. She spent the rest of her life being a "Nana" to anyone who needed her love, especially the love of her life, Ashley. She shared her strong faith and love of music by playing piano at church for over 50 years. She touched hundreds of lives during her lifetime.
    She was the daughter of Bryan and Jessie Chastain of Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hatchett; sister, Darlene Kinard; brother-in-law, Jack Lovingood; brother, Jimmy Chastain; and sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Holcomb and Eva Nell Hughes.
    She is survived by her daughter, Susan Bicknell; granddaughter, Ashley Bicknell and fiance, Dylan McClain; sister-in-law, Alice Chastain; "great granddaughter," Sadie Wood; and several nieces and nephews that were very near and dear to her heart.
    Memorial services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Dylan McClain, Al Lovingood, Zack Lovingood, Phillip Mundy, Gavin Mundy, Grant Mullins, Eddie Martin, Charlie Jones, Sonny Lovingood, Kurt Galvez, Carlton Van Horn, Greg Cranford and Perry Wallace.
    The family received friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home prior to the services.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given in memory of Martha Jean Chastain Hatchett to Murphy Elementary School library for the purchase of new books for students.
