Mack Gibson

    Mack Gibson, 86, of Murphy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4, 2022.
    He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County.
    He began his work as a taxi driver in Murphy. He moved to Atlanta, Ga., briefly, where he ran a boarding house and became a journeyman plumber.
    Mack moved back to Murphy and continued his work in plumbing for many years. Mack also worked in law enforcement beginning as a jailer and later, as a deputy.
    Mack bought the Quick Lunch Cafe and ran it alongside his wife for several years. Mack then opened Cherokee County Security Patrol and later, Mack Gibson Bonding, which he owned and operated for many years.
    He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Cherokee Masonic Lodge 146 and Shriners Temple. In his spare time, Mack enjoyed raising cattle and loved writing music, playing guitar and singing.
    He was the son of the late Leach Richard and Mae McMillan Gibson, and husband of the late Nancy Juanita Gibson, who died June 17, 2018. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Gibson; a daughter, Sandy Morrow; a grandson, Shawn Morrow; and three brothers, James, Rastus and Wade Gibson.
    Surviving are a daughter, Angela Graves of Murphy; a son, Steve Gibson and wife Vickie of Murphy; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 7, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Lee Tanner officiating. The interment will be in Sunset Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites  conducted by Cherokee Masonic Lodge 146. Pallbearers will be Aaron Gibson, Brian Dillon, David Ricks, Jeff Dockery, Eric Ledford and Keith Lovin.
    The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
