    Lucille Thompson Brendle, 88, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Aug. 13, 2021.
    She was a native of Swain County and had been a lifelong resident of Cherokee County. She was the daughter of the late Goliath and Luzene Will Thompson.
    Lucille was an awesome cook, enjoyed making crafts, gardening, taking care of grandkids and shopping.
    Lucille had worked in housekeeping at the Andrews and Murphy hospitals. She was a jokester, a UT fan and Gator fan.
    Lucille was a charter member of the Cherokee Indian Community Club, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and a member of Oak View Baptist Church in Hayesville.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; a daughter, Wilma Cody; and granddaughters, Natasha Johnson and Jessica Ledford.
    Surviving are her daughters, Mariam Haigler and husband Phil of Murphy, Martha Hedgecoth and husband Garfield of Harriman, Tenn., Rita Driver and husband Bob of Cherokee, Sierra Ledford and Dustin Garrett of Murphy; a sister, Amanda Thompson of Cherokee; eight grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy with the Rev. Calvin Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Joe Ray, Jeremy Beasley, Devon Johnson, Mark McGough, Phil Haigler and Garfield Hedgecoth. Vincent Cody will serve as honorary pallbearer.
    The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home prior to the services.
