Leslie C. Marcotte Jr., “Les,” 77, passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019, at 3:54 p.m. in Murphy, where he lived the past 20 years. He was surrounded by his loving family at his passing.
Les was born July 31, 1942, in Epping, N.H. to Leslie and Lila Marcotte.
After finishing high school, he joined the Air Force. Once he was discharged from the Air Force, he worked as a police officer for a couple years, which he enjoyed.
He later moved to Florida and worked in construction most of his life after that. He owned a successful construction company, Marcotte & Son Drywall, for 20 years in New Port Richey and Hudson, Fla., where he resided.
He later retired and moved to Murphy, where he owned and operated the Hanging Dog Country Store for many years. After selling the store, he worked at Murphy’s Cherokee Hills Golf Course and Resort in the pro shop for several years, where he could work and play at one of his true passions, playing golf, which he loved dearly and was quite good at it. Anyone that played with him always knew. It was always by the rules – no fudging allowed.
Same as the speed limit is 70 miles per hour. That’s the law, not 71 or 72, it’s 70. Must have been from the year or two that he worked as a police officer.
Dad used to drive us all crazy. Thought this game was supposed to be fun, Dad? You can still have fun, son, just follow the rules.
Les was past president of Aerie 3153 Fraternal Order of Eagles in New Port Richey, Fla., and went on to become the state president of Florida for the Eagles. He later served on many committees for the Grand Aerie nationally. He was involved with that organization in many forms and fashions for more than 40 years. He gained many friends over the years through the FOE.
He was an avid Florida Gator and Minnesota Vikings football fan. He was also an avid cook. He loved to cook for large gatherings and crowds, cooking with his Big Smoker and all his many other cooking tools. Les was always up for a good party, and a good time was always had by all.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leslie and Lila Marcotte, and his sister, Patsy Peno.
He is survived by his brother, Norman Marcotte; sister, Avis Marcotte; sons, Curtis, Leslie, Michael, Terry and Todd Scott; daughter, Shelly; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He will be missed dearly by all his friends and family.
By his request, there will be no services. His ashes will be scattered over the graves of his parents and sister at the family plot in New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers or cards, a donation can made out to Florida State Aerie and mailed to Jeff Patton, 790 Fletcher Road SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909 and in memo box write “Les Marcotte.”
He didn’t leave us, just transitioned to a better place.
“Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.”
Cochran Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of arrangements.
