    Larry Clifford Parmiter, 74, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Aug, 9, 2021, at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital.
    Larry was born Aug. 15, 1946, in Athens, Ohio, to the late Clifford Parmiter and Audrey Niggermeyer.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Parmiter; mother, Audrey Parmiter; son, John David Parmiter; and sister, Roselyn McGee O’Connor.
    Survivors include his wife, Kathy E. Parmiter; son, Larry Parmiter II; granddaughter, Ashlyn Parmiter; nieces, Jeri Ann Beach-Perkins and Sonya McGee; and nephew, Jay McGee.
    Larry was of the Catholic faith and came to the Murphy area in 2006.
    Larry enjoyed camping, antique cars and was an active member of VFW and American Legion.
    He served in the U.S. Navy from October 1963 to November 1989, retiring at the rank of CWO4 (W-4). While serving in the Navy his assignments were as follows: trainee with the Naval Reserve Surface Division 5-16 in Parkersburg, W.Va., from October 1963 to October 1965; administrative assistant to the commanding officer in the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion SIX, Davisville, RI (deploying to GTMO Cuba and DaNang, Vietnam) from October 1965 to May 1967; administrative assistant in the Construction Battalion Unit 201, Davisville, RI (deploying to McMurdo Station Antartica) from May 1967 to May 1968; Office of Legislative Affairs, Secretary of the Navy, in Washington, D.C., as congressional liasion from May 1968 to July 1969; mailroom supervisor CTF 157 in Arlington, Va., from July 1969 to December 1970; intelligence assistant CTU 157.2.7 Gibraltar, BCC from January 1971 to August 1973; operations chief U.S. Defense Attache Office, American Embassy Tokyo, Japan, from June 1975 to June 1978; leading chief OZ Division in USS Constellation (CV-64), FPO San Francisco (homeport San Diego, Calif.) from October 1978 to June 1980; Operational Intelligence Analyst (twice assigned to multinational peace keeping forces in Beirut, Lebanon) for Fleet Intelligence Center Europe and Atlantic, Norfolk, VA from June 1980 to February 1985; special agent (general criminal) for Naval Investigative Service Residence Agency, Fleet Support, Norfolk, Va., from February 1985 to June 1986; foreign counterintelligence special agent for Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Naval Air Station, in Norfolk, Va., from June 1986 to October 1989.
    Funeral services will be held at a later date in Athens, Ohio.
