    June Lee “J.L.” Coffey, 86, of Murphy, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.
    He was born in Clay County, to the late Rev. Ham Coffey and Mollie Hyatt Coffey.
    J.L. was a U.S. Marine veteran. He was a rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office.
    J.L. played the piano, guitar and bass guitar by ear.
    His greatest joy in life was spending time with Alex and Dorian, and also sitting in the sun and napping in the garage. J.L. enjoyed playing golf with his brothers.
    He was a member of Marble Springs Lodge 439 A.F.&A.M.
    In 1984, J.L. became an ordained deacon at Pine Log Baptist Church and later became a member of Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Dee, Zeb, Birder and Austin; and father-in-law, Grady McGaha.
    He is survived by his wife, Freda McGaha Coffey; the loves of his life, daughter Alex Taylor and grandson Dorian Taylor; brother, Fred Coffey; sister, Mary Jane Owens; nieces and nephews, Rachel, Loretta, Camille and Larry; mother-in-law, Ruth McGaha; brother and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Doris, Michael and Mary, and Gaitha; and many great nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church. The Revs. Aud Brown and Noah Crowe officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with mason graveside rites being conducted by Marble Springs Lodge 439 A.F.&A.M. Pallbearers were Marble Springs Lodge 439.
    The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marble Springs Lodge 439 A.F.&A.M, 12 Bluff Road, Marble, NC 28905.
    Townson-Rose Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
