Joyce Bundy Tipton, 86, of Maryville, Tenn., formerly of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, in Maryville, Tenn., surrounded by family.
She was a native of Moyock, N.C. She lived most of her adult life in Tampa, Fla., where she worked for CSX, a freight transportation company, for about 40 years, until her retirement. Joyce moved to Murphy in 1993.
She was a member of the National Association of Railway Business Women and was also active with the Junior Achievement Program.
Joyce was an active member of Murphy First Baptist Church and volunteered much of her time with the Sparrow’s Nest Ministry and the Nursing Home Outreach Program, singing for the elderly.
She was the daughter of the late Enness Linwood and Grace Aydlett Bundy, and wife of the late Gerald A. “Jerry” Tipton, who died Dec. 9, 2018. She was also preceded in death by a stepson, Allen Tipton; two brothers, E.L. and Sheldon Bundy; and a sister, Jean White.
Surviving are a daughter, Michele Armesto and husband Alberto of Woodbridge, Va.; a son, Martin Armbrester and wife Maria of Maryville, Tenn.; two step-daughters, Deanna Campbell and husband William “Bill” of Cumming, Ga., and Carol Foster and husband Brad of Lenexa, Kan.; a sister, Carolyn Davis of Currituck, N.C.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. The inurement will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date.
The family will receive friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, prior to the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Joyce Bundy Tipton to Murphy First Baptist Church, 517 Hiwassee St., Murphy, NC 28906.
