    Joseph “JJ” Jefferies, 90, of Andrews, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at his residence.
    He was born in Danville, Va., to the late Joseph Johnston Jefferies Jr. and Anna Angel Jefferies.
    JJ retired from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission as an officer.
    He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War, retired from the National Guard and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.
    JJ was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Jefferies; a son, Joseph (Joe) Jefferies; and two sisters, Virginia George and Arlene Lineberry.
    Surviving are two sons, Randy Jefferies (Debbie) and David Jefferies; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Jefferies; a brother-in-law, Ernest George; a sister, Belva Jean Collins; three granddaughters, Rebecca Jefferies, Crystal Smith (Jeremy) and Demi Jefferies; four grandsons, Derek Jefferies, Adrian Jefferies (Misty), Chris Jefferies (Heather) and Aaron Jefferies (Teke); and six great-grandchildren, Devin, Brayden, Baler, Tryston, Evie and Nova.
    Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church with the Rev. Aud Brown officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military graveside conducted by the American Legion Post 96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, and VFW Post 6812 Hayesville.
    The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
