John Stilwell
John E. Stilwell, 68, of Burnsville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021.
A native of Clay County, he was a son of the late Alex and Kate Swanson Stilwell.
He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Kevin Stilwell, and a brother, Randy Stilwell.
John was a graduate of Hayesville High School and was a plumber for over 30 years. He had a wonderful sense of humor, had a heart of gold and loved helping others.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Judy McCurry and husband Bryan of Unicoi, Tenn., Amy Gill and husband Tim of Clyde, and Rachel Ellege and husband Chad of Leicester; his partner of four years, Dawn Hollifield of Burnsville; seven grandchildren, Zoey, Hope, Abigail, Caitlin, Alex, Aidan and Avery; one great-grandson, Jack; sisters, Reginia Rogers and Mary Ann Stilwell of Hayesville; brothers, Robert (Brenda) Stilwell and Ricky Stilwell of Murphy, David (ZoeA) Stilwell and William Stilwell of Hayesville. Several other extended family members and a host of friends also survive.
Funeral services for John were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services in Burnsville. His son-in-law, the Rev. Chad Ellege, officiated. The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the services.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the Union Hill Cemetery in Hayesville.
