    Jesse Eugene “Gene” Buchanan, 89, of Culberson, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022.
    He was born in Fannin County, Ga., on May 26, 1933.
    Gene loved mowing grass for his customers Faye, Terry, Sue and many others throughout the years. He was a logger by trade, and cut and hauled timber many years ago.
    Gene’s favorite pastime was watching wrestling on TV and listening to WKRK. He especially loved the music and listening to Party Line. He also enjoyed visiting Clark Byers’ grocery in Culberson.
    Gene laced leather billfolds, loved cats, and enjoyed shopping at Ingles and eating at Bojangles.
    He attended Friendship No. 2 Baptist Church and Culberson Baptist Church.
    He was the son of the late Rastus and Emma Pruitt Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Nix; a niece, Dorothy Laney; and several cousins.
    Surviving are a wife, Deloris Buchanan; two stepdaughters, Judy DeGrie and Janet Eaton Joyce; one stepson, Ross “Bo” Eaton; one niece, Ellen Lockhart of Culberson; and one nephew, Tony Nix of Blue Ridge, Ga. He is also survived by many grandchildren and  great-grandchildren; two special grandnieces, Tania Little and Jessica Dukes; and six other grandnieces.
    Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, with Pastor Craig Fish officiating. Interment will be in Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
    The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of arrangements.
