    James “Jim” Edward Vance, 79, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020.
    He was born in Allegheny County, Pa., to the late Robert and Edna Humes Vance.
    James was a civil engineer. In his younger years, James enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an instructor at Chatuge Gun Club for 15 years and was a marksman.
    James was a humble, kind and loving man. He enjoyed spending time with family.
    James was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Vance.
    He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Vance; three sons, Edward “Eddie” Vance and wife Randi of Charlotte, Kevin Vance and wife Kristen of Cummings, Ga., and Tommy Hogsed and wife Angela of Hayesville; one daughter, Jeanette Bulick and husband David of Summerville, S.C.; one brother, Jack Vance and wife Joanne of Pensacola, Fla.; one sister, Katheryann and husband Gene of Philadelphia, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
    A memorial service was held at noon Friday, Feb. 14, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Edward Carter and Calvin Murphy officiated.
