    Herman H. “Buddy” Pope Jr., 68, of Eatonton, Ga., and formerly of Murphy, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, in an Athens, Ga., hospital.
    Buddy moved to Murphy in 1982 from Bradenton, Fla. He attended the University of Alabama, where he played football under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
    Buddy served the Lord faithfully as a minister of the gospel to several area churches.
    He was the son of the late Herman H. and Gladys Carlton Pope.
    Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Colleen Williams Pope; two daughters, Rachel Pope Sarmiento and Hadassah Pope McClendon, both of Bradenton, Fla.; three sons, Benjamin and Daniel Pope of Murphy, and Isaac Pope of Eatonton, Ga.; three sisters, Donna Pope Mizell, Cynthia Pope and Jane Pope; one brother, Dana Pope; and 13 grandchildren.
    A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.
