    Geraldine Clonts Garland, 87, of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
    Geraldine was born and lived in Cherokee County her whole life. She was a graduate of Murphy High School, Class of 1951.
    Geraldine began her career in 1956 as a secretary to the superintendent for Cherokee County Schools. Later in her career, she served as the payroll officer for the school system until her retirement in 1985.
    She was a member of Ranger Baptist Church, where she served several years as the church clerk.
    After retiring, she spent many years caring for her parents, father-in-law and husband.
    Geraldine loved her family and enjoyed her beautiful flower garden and loved sharing the beauty of it with others.
    In addition to her parents, Charlie and Lexie Stiles Clonts, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Garland Sr.
    She is survived by her sons ,Robert Lee Garland Jr. and wife Suzhen, and Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Garland and wife Carmen; and grandchildren, Lucas David Garland and Camden Worth Garland.
    A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Derrick Palmer and Steve Ware officiated. Burial was in Ranger Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Cheek, Jerry Curtis, Radford Cheek, Sam Davis, Lucas Garland and Jimmy Hedrick. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Miller, Pete Barber, Jearold Stiles and Calvin Shields.
    The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Geraldine’s honor to Ranger Baptist Cemetery Fund, 151 Walker Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
