    Fred Byers, 82, of Warne, passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, in Braselton, Ga.
    He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. Fred was the son of the late Charles Woodrow and Irene Byers Byers.
    He was a self-employed welder.
    Fred was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church.
    He enjoyed spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred enjoyed football, NASCAR racing and fishing.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Jean Taylor Byers; six brothers, Wayne Byers, Roy Lee Byers, Jack Byers, Monroe Byers, Claude D. Byers and infant brother, Benny Edward Byers; two sisters, Helen Scharringhausen and Betty Sue Hooper.
    He is survived by three sons, Danny Byers of Wellington, Fla., Benny Fred Byers of Belton, Texas, and Mike Byers of Warne; one daughter, Sheryl Miller and husband Steve of Warne; two brothers, Lawrence and Thomas Byers, both of Hayesville; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville. The Revs. Chris Rumfelt, Johnny Foster and Billy Stiles will officiate.
    The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, at First Free Will Baptist Church.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church, 259 Tusquittee St., Hayesville, NC 28904.
