    Ernest Edward Ledford, 83, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at his residence after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  
    Ernest was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Marine Corps.
    After his military obligation, Ernest worked for and retired from Delta Airlines after 32½ years in Atlanta, Ga., before moving back to his birthplace.
    He was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church and attended Ranger United Methodist Church for 30 years.
    He was the son of the late Ralph Ernest and Edith Garland Ledford.
    Surviving is his beloved wife of 61 years, Edith Faye Wilcox Ledford; a daughter, Cheryl L. Romines and husband Lamar of Stockbridge, Ga.; a granddaughter, Jessie R. Cape and husband Clay, and a great-granddaughter, Parker Lee Cape, all of Griffin, Ga.
    In lieu of Covid, a private family graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, at Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Lee officiating, and with military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps. Pallbearers will be Glenn Sneed, Lamar Romines, Ken Price, Dean Wilcox, Richard Kilpatrick, Gary Kilpatrick, Clay Cape and Richard VonSherr. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Davis, Harry Bryant, James Bryant and Jackie Bryant.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Ernest Edward Ledford to Ranger United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 156 Ranger Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of all arrangements.
