    Ella Louise Jackson, 76, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
    She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, and daughter of the late Walter and Martha Washington Moore Blackwell.
    Ella was a caregiver. She was a leader in the community. Ella started the Martin Luther King Breakfast and also had the Texana Community Thrift Store.
    Later in Ella’s years, she enjoyed going to the Penland Senior Center.
    Ella enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and community kids. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. Ella was the rock of the family; queen of Texana.
    She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in the Texana community and the Episcopal Church – The Messiah.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Herbert Jackson; and one son, Sidney Negil Jackson.
    She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Jackson, Donnie Jackson (Rita), Jack Jackson (Holly), Aaron Jackson, all of Murphy, and Jerel Jackson of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Gerri Davis and husband Chad, and Zula Cox, all of Murphy; two brothers, Larry Wilson of Murphy and James Walter Blackwell Jr. (Mary) of Winston-Salem; sisters-in-law, Geri McCombs and Selma Jackson, both of Murphy; 16 grandchildren, Scott and Amber MacDonall, Deanna Oliver, Lily and Layla Jackson, Raven and Kilian Lance, Samone Velquez, Seth Jackson, Alex Hines, Olivia Davis, Rashad Davis, Haizley Freeman, D.J. Cox, Reggie Cox and Yolanda Cox; great-grandchildren, Zach, Bianca, Tyler, Nevaeh, Destiny, Mekel, K.J., Keishon and Breanna; special nieces, Mallori Wilson, June Blackwell and Cassidy Hatchett; and special nephews, Damon Herron, Channing Wilson and Anthony Wilson.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. The Revs. Lewis Grant, John Webb and Thelina Turner officiated. Burial was in Notley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Damon Herron, Channing Wilson, Scott MacDonall, Reggie Cox, Rashad Davis and Jake Smith.
    The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Penland Senior Center, 69 Alpine St., Murphy, NC 28906.
