Donald (Don) Ray Pickney, 79, of Murphy, passed peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his own home Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022.
Don was born on March 8, 1943, in Portia, Ark., to Louie and Margaret (Flippo) Pickney.
Don was one of six children and is survived by two sisters, Vonda Pickney Housdan Catledge and Diana Lynn.
Don served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War as infantry (11B40) in the Fort Lewis, Washington, 6th Army.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbra; and his four daughters, Angel Thompson (Moulton, Ala.), Tammy Bong (Ormond Beach, Fla.), Dawn Woods (Brooksville, Fla.), Melanie Pickney (Blacksburg, S.C.), along with stepchildren Thomas Barnes, Steven Barnes and Mary Barnett. He is also blessed with many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He loved taking road trips with his wife, eating at the local Hardee’s and exploring the mountains around his home. The girls. fondest memories of him were growing up watching wrestling, bowling and playing softball with their father.
A small private military Celebration of Life will be held mid-September in Murphy.
