Don Downer, 79, of Murphy, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2020.
He was born in Denver, Colo., to the late George and Mary Gabriel Downer.
Don worked for Car Quest in Blairsville, Ga.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He especially loved camping at Gibson Cove.
After starting his family in Santa Barbara, Calif., he relocated his family to Murphy in 1976 to the mountains where he loved living.
Pop, as he was loving known as, loved his family.
Don was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Eric Downer.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Annette Hyatt Downer; one daughter, Karie Clayton and husband Bryan; two granddaughters, Laynee Adams and husband Jerome and Lacie Knight; three great-grandchildren, Harper Clayton, Blakelee Knight and Brixton Adams.
Funeral services were held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church. The Rev. Aud Brown officiated. Music was provided by Susie Graham. Pallbearers were Jerome Adams, Kenny Hall, Wayne Wells, Keith Zimmerman, Cameron Smith and Ben Smith.
The family received friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
