Body

Dan Carroll Hawk Sr., 89, of Andrews, passed peacefully to our Lord on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
Dan was born Jan. 15, 1932, in Andrews to the late Willard Mitchell Hawk and Blanche Bradley Hawk.
Dan was a devoted husband and father who loved to spend Sunday afternoons with family and friends, cooking out and enjoying fellowship somewhere in the mountains.
He loved Andrews and the surrounding valley, spending all but three years of his life in Andrews working, contributing to the community and providing for his family.
He graduated from Andrews High School in 1951 and married the love of his life, Rosalind Stalcup of Murphy, on Jan. 3, 1953. The two remained married for 60 years. Dan and Rosalind were active members of Andrews United Methodist Church, participating in choir from 1954 until 2010.
Dan was a Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from May 1951 until July 1953.
He went to work for the Rodda Van Gorder Clinic in 1954 providing laboratory and x-ray technical services to the community for over 45 years, ending his career with Andrews Internal Medicine. Dan drew blood and set broken bones for many people in the Andrews, Marble, Robbinsville and Nantahala communities.
He served the community as a town alderman in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and was a member of the Andrews School Board in the mid-1960s. Dan was a member of the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years and was active with youth sports, coaching little league baseball and Mite football.
In his spare time, he loved to wander Chatuge Shores Golf Club golfing several times a week with friends, and raising vegetables in the garden. One of his joys later in life was meeting his senior high classmates in their “51 Club.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind Stalcup Hawk, on Feb. 28, 2013.  He was also preceded in death by his four sisters, Ruth, Geraldine, Betty John and Peggy; and three brothers, Harold Malcolm (Jack), Willard Mitchell II (Mickey) and Joseph Harry Hawk.
Dan is survived by his daughte, Carole Maennle and husband Steve; son, Danny Hawk and wife Ruth; daughter-in-law, Muffy Kerber and husband George; grandchildren, Dan Hawk III and wife Sarah, Kristin Hawk and wife Julie, Beth Maennle, Mark Maennle and wife, Ashley, Josh Hawk and wife Misty; Georgie Kerber and wife Sophia, and Alex Kerber and partner Mike Davis; great-grandchildren, Lucas Moses-Borne, Hudson Hawk, Bennett Hawk, Gwyneth Maennle, Coralee Hawk, Greyson Maennle and Benjamin Davis.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at Andrews United Methodist Church. Military honors will be provided by Murphy American Legion Post 96, Hayesville VFW Post 6812 and Hayesville American Legion Post 532.
