    Jaymz Brett Jones, 26, of Murphy, whose Cherokee name is “Ganuteyo” (meaning “Rope Twister”), passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021, at his residence.
    Brett was the son of Carrie Smith of Murphy, and Bud and Tracy Jones of Robbinsville.
    He was preceded in death by his sister, Cristyn Jade Jones.
    He was a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. A fluent Cherokee language speaker, he would often help in teaching the younger generations to speak the native language.  
    In all he did, he was a bright light, and people were instantly drawn to his personality.
    In addition to his parents, Brett is survived by his siblings, Troy Dane Jones, Isabella Nicole Jones, Jacoby Cash Jones, Bristol Alexandra Jones, all of Robbinsville, Alec Tristen Konyha and Ian Richard Konyha, both of Port Richie, Fla., Alyssa Krug Davis of Moultrie, Ga., and Morgan Konyha Newton of Murphy; his maternal grandmother, Dorothy Smith of Unaka; his paternal grandparents, Lou Jackson and Jerry and Lerita Jones, all of Robbinsville; his uncle, Brandon Jones of Robbinsville; and his aunts, Brandi Smith and Theresa Creasman, both of Andrews, and Pearl Hughey of Mooresville. His cousins are Roman, Tucker and Emily Jones, Gabby and Morgan Picon, Bailey Beaver, Taylor Hughey and Kira Creasman.
    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at Lone Oak Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Teasdale officiated. The family received friends from 1-3 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.
    Afterwards, he was laid to rest at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery beside his beloved Cissy, Cristyn.  Serving as pallbearers were Brandon and Roman Jones, Bailey Beaver, Gabby Picon, Justin Muncy, A.C. Smoker, Jagger Garrett, Dylan Rogers and Ben Wiggins.
    Due to the risk of exposure to COVID 19, it was requested that face coverings be worn during the service by those who have not been vaccinated.
    Townson-Smith Funeral Home, Robbinsville, was honored to be serving the Jones family.
