    Bobbie Deaton Yates, 86, of Shelby, died Monday, June 27, 2022, at her home.
    Born in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Ollie and Essie Wilson Deaton.
    Bobbie was raised by her grandmother, Lessie H. Wilson, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was a former member of Andrews United Methodist Church and was a devoted Christian. She loved her dogs and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Jack Yates; sons, Jackie and Robbie Yates; granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Rogers; brother, Don Deaton; and sister, Carolyn Cowart.
    She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Yates of Shelby; son, Jeff Yates and wife Rebecca of Ithaca, N.Y.; sister, Joyce Tatham and husband Jack of Shelby; and granddaughters, Madison Curtis and husband Jesse and Nora Yates.
    A memorial service was held in Shelby on Friday, July 1, and a second memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the United Methodist Church in Andrews.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Welcome Table, a church ministry that provides a free meal to the community at 5 p.m. every Thursday. Donations can be made by calling the church office at 828-321-5216, or by a check made payable to: Andrews United Methodist Church,

    Bobbie’s family wants to thank everyone for all the love and support we have received from her many friends during this difficult time.
