    Bob Brown, 81, of Murphy, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, surrounded by family.
    He was a native of Elkton, Md., and moved to Gradyville, Pa., at a young age. He graduated from Marple-Newtown High School.
    Bob served in the United States Army as a radar repair specialist.
    Bob began his career working for Scott Paper Company. He was later hired by Clifton Precision in Pennsylvania and transferred to Murphy in 1968. Bob stayed on with Clifton until retiring in 2006 as general manager.
    He was a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Church where he sang in the choir, was a member of the prayer team and served on various committees at the church.
    He was a member of the Jaycees, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of the Murphy Medical Center Foundation. Bob volunteered with Meals on Wheels for many years. He was very involved with the Cherokee County Little League program and also coached many kids throughout the years.
    He was active in motocross racing alongside his sons, working as coach, sponsor, mechanic, fundraiser, and he was his sons’ and grandchildren’s biggest fan.
    Bob also enjoyed being outdoors fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He was also an avid bowler and golfer, who achieved a hole-in-one at Mountain Harbour.
    He was the son of the late Marion Delmar and Hallie Mae Comer Brown. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Tina Couch.
    Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Diane Brown; three sons, Bobby Brown, and Paul Brown and wife, Cindy, all of Murphy, and Gary Brown and wife Ramona of Brasstown; five sisters, Nellie Truitt of Restin, Va., Patricia Butler and husband William, and Rita Simpson and husband David, all of Honeybrook, Pa., Fran Worrell and husband Frank of Ocean City, N.J., and Nancy Carol McGehean of Aston, Pa.; a brother, William Brown of Sarasota Springs, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Kevin Laney, Josh Brown, Adrienne  Brown, Chase Brown and wife Megan, and Hailey Brown; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Laney, Collis Gooch and Ellis Gooch; best friend of 53 years, Johnny Berrong; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Shepherd of the Mountains Church with the Revs. Chris West and Al Beck officiating.
    The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Shepherd of the Mountains Church prior to the services.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Bob Brown to Shepherd of the Mountains Church, 68 Fairfax Drive, Murphy, NC 28906 or the Salvation Army.
    Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, is in charge of arrangements.
