    Birdie Sudderth Bowman, age 95, of Ellicott City, MD., passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at a Maryland care facility.
    She was born in Murphy, to the late Frank and Cecil Sudderth.
    Birdie and her husband, Argel, lived in Chicago with their children during the late 1950s through 1974 when she and her husband returned to Murphy. After the death of her husband, she relocated to Reston, Va., to be closer to family.
    During her career in office administrative support, Birdie worked in various companies including Hubbard Telephone Contractors in Murphy, a bank and a Montessori School in Reston, Va.
    Always happy to have her loved ones close by, Birdie looked forward to spending time with her children and family. Birdie had strong faith and was a member of St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church in Reston where she was a member of the gospel choir and a eucharistic minister. Birdie enjoyed watching NFL football on Sundays and looked forward to cheering for Washington. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and watching game shows in the evenings. One of her great joys was attending her grandson’s wedding in Kansas City, Mo., in 2019.
    In her last years, she moved to Maryland to be closer to her daughter and lived independently up until 2019.
    Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, Argel Richard Bowman, Sr., and her siblings Clarence Sudderth, Frank Sudderth, Jr., Mae Hardy Wade, William Sudderth, and Charles Sudderth.
    Birdie is survived by her daughter, Linda Woodfolk of Columbia, Md.; her son Argel Richard Bowman, Jr. and his wife, Alina, of Grovetown, Ga.; and her grandson, Jason Bowman, and his wife, Kendra, of Bristol, Conn. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Lackey, of Roswell, Ga.
    A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Carl Hubbell officiating.
    The family will receive friends from 1:45-2:30 pm Saturday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.
