Billie June Howell was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Liberty. She passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Superior Residences of Brandon, Fla., at age 85.
Billie started working for the phone company AT&T at age 18 in Washington, D.C. She later moved to Portland, Ore., and then to Pomona, Calif., where she continued to work for AT&T and where she met her husband, George Howell. George and Billie June were married Oct. 20, 1956, in Ontario, Calif. They were just eight days shy of their 63rd anniversary.
Billie continued to work at AT&T Corp until she had children and became a stay-at-home mother. The family moved to Florida in 1964.
Billie was a devout Christian woman. She loved quilting, genealogies, scrapbooking and, most of all, working in her yard with her daylilies and orchids.
She was the daughter of the late Clyde E. and Ella Vee Hamilton Jory.
She is survived by her husband, George N. Howell; son, George D. Howell, Brandon, Fla.; daughter, Lisa R. Hutcherson and her husband, Robert H. Hutcheson Jr., of Lakeland, Fla.; brother, Clyde Sidney Jory and his wife, Sharon, of Turtletown, Tenn.; twin niece, Stachia Cochran, and nephew, Tyler Jory of Turtletown, Tenn.; nephew, Keith Hawkins and his wife, Debbie, of Murphy; and grandsons, Andrew Hutcheson, Matthew Hutcheson and Jesse Hutcheson of Lakeland, Fla.
A memorial service officiated by the Rev. Joe Zanio was held Saturday, Oct. 19, at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home.
