    Barbara Morgan Akers, 79, of Murphy, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, in an Andrews care facility.
    Barbara was a native of Waynesboro, Tenn., and lived and worked in Wayne and Oakland counties in Michigan before retiring to Murphy in October 2000. She worked as an office manager for Credit Union Service Centers, which served multiple credit unions throughout Southeast Michigan.
    Barbara was a member of Murphy First Baptist Church and volunteered with the Valley River Humane Society Thrift Store. Barbara loved her and Jim’s family including whatever dog she had at the time.
    She was the daughter of the late Ralph B. and Lela Martin Morgan. She was preceded in death by her only sister, Bonnie St. Amant and her husband, John; her loving step brothers, Ray and Jim Crane; and one nephew, Steve Crane.
    Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Jim Akers; one brother-in-law, Howard Akers and wife Maxine of Charlotte; two sisters-in-law, Mary Crane of Crossville, Tenn., and Becky Crane of Taylor, Mich.; four nephews, Jimi Crane, Jeffery Kapuscinski, Keith Akers and Scott Akers; four nieces, Deneen Akers, Lori Crane Taylor, Kelly Crane Holt and Lisa Crane Nuss; also survived by several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Murphy First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating.
    Inurnment will take place at a later date at Georgia National Cemetery.
