Arthur Wayne Purcell, 79, of Murphy, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2021.
He was born in Guilford County, N.C., to the late Lewis Wayne and Era Hattie Lackey Purcell.
Arthur was a retired handyman, and the owner/operator of a lawn service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Lackey; and two sisters, Linda Forrest and Francis Hutchson.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Dobbs Purcell; three sons, James Arthur Purcell, Jerry Mashburn and Melvin Mashburn; four daughters, Tammy Winfree, Theresa Snyder, Debbie Dockery and Becky Crane; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy. Pastor Gerald Derreberry officiated.
Burial was in Shady Grove Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Jerry Mashburn, Melvin Mashburn, Rodney Crane, Christopher Edwards, Joe Edwards and Jerry Curtis.
The family received friends from noon-1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at Townson-Rose Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 198 Shady Grove Rd, Murphy, NC 28906.
