Walmart extends fundraiser to help reach hospital’s goal

Murphy – Walmart recently had a fundraiser lasting the entire month of June for the Children’s Miracle Network, which helps 10 million kids each year.

Money was raised by selling treats like popcorn and snow cones. Along with the snack sales were about 10 clear jugs on the table for donations. Each jug had a photo of a different Walmart manager or “coach” on the front. The one collecting the least amount of donations in their container was to receive a “pie in the face” for all to see.

The results are in, and the recipient of the culinary treat to the face was food and consumables coach Kyle Johnson.

Cindy McLendon, the front-end coach, had the most collected donations for the Children’s Miracle Network and was happy to be going home clean.

“A lot of people came forward and were donating,” she said. “We’ve had popcorn and a food truck outside, so we’ve had a lot of participation. It was really fun.”

In total, associates raised $7,239, although the goal was $10,000. As a result, Walmart decided to extend the fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network an additional two weeks.

At least one thing could be said in this situation for Johnson – having to lick your wounds was at least pretty tasty.
