VFW announces essay winner

Andrews – Scott Ramler, commander of Andrews Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7620, has presented the annual Voice of Democracy essay award to contest winner John Durham, a junior at Murphy High School.

The Voice of Democracy essay contest is sponsored by the VFW. The theme for the 2024-25 contest was, “Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision?”

Entries for the contest consist of a submitted audio essay and are judged by local VFW posts, with winners at both state and national levels. The contest was established in 1947 and draws more than 40,000 entries from students in grades 9-12.

The VFW is a fraternal organization for veterans that engages in community enrichment projects. Andrews Post 7620 also offers weekly morning coffee and meetings and welcomes veteran visitors.
