Traffic stop in Ranger leads to 2 drug arrests

Ranger – A Bear Paw woman and a Mineral Bluff, Ga., man were arrested on drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop Friday.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office reported that at about 11:30 a.m. Joy Shipers, 21, of Lower Bear Paw Road, was seen operating a black 2023 Toyota SUV on Die Bend Road with revoked registration plates and an inspection violation.

As the deputy followed, he observed an item thrown from the vehicle from the passenger side on Johnson Road.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop, during which drug paraphernalia was located.  Another deputy recovered an item believed to be thrown from the vehicle, a medicine bottle containing 36.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine. An additional 4.3 grams of meth was found inside the vehicle.

Shivers and her passenger – Robert Wiley Baker, 26 – were charged.

Baker was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Murphy in lieu of $150,000 bond as of Monday.

Shipers was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute methamphetamine. She was released after posting $50,000 bond.
