Supplies sale makes crafters happy while helping library

Murphy – The Murphy Public Library saw a lot of happy crafters Friday and Saturday, as the annual Arts & Crafts Supply Sale had folks sorting through all kinds of items.

Tables along the walls and down the center of a large room were filled with everything from quilting materials, stickers, feathers, yarns and Christmas ornaments to gourds, ribbons, books on crafting and numerous other miscellaneous items. All the spaces under each table were also jammed with crafting supplies. It was a crafter’s paradise, as bigger craft supply stores are almost two hours away.

Sherry Angerer works at a quilt shop and is also a quilter. Of the library’s event, she “said, I think it’s wonderful. I’m even thinking about volunteering because I like what they’re doing for the community.”

The annual sale helps the library raise money for things like books – including audio books – movies, computers and other items needed. Supplies for the sale were all donated and marked low in price.

The sale brought a lot of crafters together. It has become a bit of a social event, as crafters enjoy talking with others about their projects as well as sharing their own ideas.

Scotty Plappert, a member of Friends of the Murphy Public Library, agreed.

“We are delighted with how the public has responded and the great turnout,” he said. “Customers even made additional donations.”

Lynn Dupre added, “I make Christmas ornaments. I’m excited because after COVID it’s good to see people and the library back again to offer this type of event.”

“It’s nice to find some deals on fabrics and supplies and support the community,” said Evan Murphy, who makes folk art figurines using different fabrics and various materials.

Those who came out and purchased items were part of raising more than $1,500 toward the library.
