Andrews – Deputies from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Andrews Police Department and Cherokee County Emergency Management participated in
an active shooter drill with the staff of Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters on May 14.
Snowbird is a high-adventure,,Christian faith-based camp that ministers to students from across the nation. At any time during the camp season, Snowbird hosts up to 800 students and staff during a week.
In addition to the discipleship and recreation the staff provided to the students, the Snowbird team provides its own robust security for the facility and students, which includes intensive training and twice-yearly qualifications.
“It is great to see an organization (Snowbird) put so much effort and training into keeping their kids and staff safe,” Sheriff Dustin Smith said.
The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office works with schools, churches, medical facilities and business to mitigate the threat of active shooters. If your organization would like to talk about security for your organization, call Agent Sean Myers at 828-837-2589.
